The Power of Believing

I think that we all underestimate the effect that believing in yourself has on your own life. Having faith in yourself allows you to face your fears and stand up for what you believe in and most importantly accomplish those amazing dreams that you have! Think about it like this:

'If you tell yourself what you want to achieve, over time you will get there'

'If you believe that you can, over time you will'

'If you focus on achieving that goal, over time you will accomplish that goal and live the life you've always dreamt of'

I know what your probably thinking....

BUT I ASURE YOU THESE STATEMENTS ARE SO TRUE!

I recently read this AMAZING article on how to manipulate your own mind (you can find it here: The Trick to Manipulate Your Own Mind ) And it really opened by eyes to the power of your own mind.

I think that our minds are very similar to a toddler (minus the poop and mashed peas) in the sense that they are very easy to convince. If you tell a 3 year old that snow is actually cotton candy, then next time it snows they will eat it thinking that it is actually cotton candy (LITTLE KIDS ARE JUST SO SWEET AND INNOCENT OKAY) And if we decide that we want to act perfectly fine even though we may be dying inside, our minds easily start acting like we are happy and okay, without questioning it.

You know, I really wish that everyone would just shout there dreams out on the rooftops so that we can all help one another reach them because that my friends, would be the most powerful and gratifying thing yet.

I also wish that people would realize that dreams do come true. I find that so many people just give up on their dreams because they think that they are simply 'unreachable'. WHICH IS SO NOT THE CASE!

Anyways, you can do anything that you want my darling because if you think you can, you can. I believe in you. I think that we are who we chose to be. Our own mind can be our worst enemy sometimes and no one is going to come along and save us. You just have to pick yourself back up again and again. No one is going to give you everything that you want. You have to go out a work for it. So don't give up on your dreams, they're a lot closer then you think.

Hello everyone! So for todays post I wanted to draw your attention to this post that I wrote and published back in July. It was my first 'real' post on my blog and it means a lot to me. It was written directly from my heart and I couldn't have said what I wanted to say any differently to this day. And without further or do...Enjoy!

Ok, so a few days ago I finished the book; All The Bright Places by Jennifer Nivan. Out of all the books I have ever read (and i’ve read A LOT of books) this is the only book that I legitimately have thought about for a good solid week. I can’t decide whether I like the book (aka I was totally balling my eyes out by the end). It’s just that the ending really takes you by surprise and gets you thinking about the seriousness of mental illness (it also makes you think about the power of true love).

The first thing I learned from this novel is that love can truly take you by surprise and it is wonderful. You always hear about those perfect, fairy-tale like couples but I think that the best kind of love is unexpected. You know, the popular, gorgeous girl who just happens to bump in to the geeky boy at school and they instantly fall in love. Yes I love that and this book is the definition of unexpected love.

The second thing I learned is that mental illnesses really suck. Like you just grass stained your brand new $90 Topshop jeans sucky. But the worst part is that you can’t just give people some magic pills and it will go away. Mental illnesses do not go away. They stay with you for a long time and no matter how hard people try to pretend there non existent, there still there. The only real way to treat them is to talk to people who actually know what there talking about. These people can help treat them. Ok so now your probably thinking everything thing’s ok, but it still isn’t. Many people with mental illnesses do not want to seek help because they do not want to be labeled as having an illness. This is where the real problem occurs. This book focuses on many outcomes of not treating mental illnesses, which really touched my heart.

Overall, what I’m trying to say here is that A: You should read this book because after really thinking about this book for 1 week of my life (that I will never get back) I have come to the conclusion that this book is indeed amazing. B: Some things come into your life really fast, even if you are not ready for them to happen, but you must still embrace them. Whether or not this may be unexpected love or maybe even a mental illness, do what you can to make the most of it (even if it sucks like grass stains).

Secret Identity

I’ve wanted to publish a post like this for a while, but I couldn’t figure out what I actually wanted to say. So here goes nothing...

Hello, my name is Em. Some of you may know a little bit about me because you read my blog (yay you!) and some of you may not know a single thing about me, which is okay too. In case your new here this is all you need to know: I’m a high school student with huge aspirations to succeed in life and I love yoga. That sums me up quite well. Those of you who have seen or read my blog before might of noticed that there are no pictures of my face on this blog. In some ways I have a secret identity.

The internet is quite a fascinating thing if you think about it. It allows you to connect with people from all over the globe who you might not of even met before in person. Wow. That’s pretty darn cool if you ask me. And that’s why I love the internet. But, it is also why I hate it. This super cool feature also allows people from around the world to judge you and say whatever they please about you without you even knowing that they exist. This scares me. If someone wants to criticize me I would prefer if they straight out told me. Maybe I said something in one of my posts that offended you, in that case, I would like to know so that I can correct my wording in the post. Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that people on the internet can be super nice and supportive or they can be mean. This is why my identity is private.

I do not lack self-confidence (which is kind of weird because I’m literally ranting about how I don’t want people on the internet to know what I look like...). I love me. I live by the phrase “Keep your heels, head and standards high”. Someone can tell me that my hair looks weird or my outfit doesn’t match and I just look at them and smile and simply say ‘Okay cool!’ and then I walk away. You can have the self-confidence of a pop star and still not want to completely open yourself up to the online world.

For me, my blog is a secret place. No one knows about it and that’s honestly the way I like it. It allows me to be me, instead of me, heavily influenced around what my peers want me to do. Will I eventually expose my blog to my friends and family? Probably. Will I show my readers what I look like, on the outside? Most likely. But, for now, the answer to these questions is no and that’s okay.

So, what I’m trying to say is that be careful what you share with the world. Expose yourself enough to make new friendships but not too much that people will take advantage of you. The reality is that your blog readers will never know every little bit of your personal life, and that’s 100% okay. I’m not at that point where I want to share everything with my readers and that is also 100% okay.

I just came back from my spring break trip and I decided not to bring my laptop. Anyways, here is a post that I am a big fan of. I find this is the time of year when I’m kind of in a slump. Christmas is over and summer seems so far away. I tend to lose motivation and find myself procrastinating doing almost EVERYTHING (i’m serious, i’m leaving for a spring break vacation tomorrow and I still haven’t even thought about actually packing....oops). So today I am sharing with you 20 ways to stay inspired and motivated.

1. Watch a teen TED talk

AS much as I love super cool accomplished adults talking about their crazy cool lives, I actually prefer to hear it coming from a teen like me. In case you are not aware, a TED talk is a short inspirational speech. They have ones about leadership, science, racism, poverty, and almost everything else. Here are some of my personal favourites:

2. Read a book

I tend to gravitate to books about girl/woman empowerment mainly because they make me feel like I can do anything and everything I set my mind to. I really enjoy the books #GirlBoss and Smart Girls Get What They Want.

3. Make a 10 plan

I know, I know ten years is a LONG ways away. I WILL BE 24 YEARS OLD OH MY GOODNESS! Anyways, make a ten year plan is a good way to set you on your path to success.

4. Ask yourself what you want to do

Not in 5 years, not after you graduate high school or when you turn 18, now. Today. Society is constantly getting you to think about your life after you graduate high school. What kind of job will you get, where will you live, how many kids do you want to have. Do you ever realize that adults never ask you what you want to now? It is almost like we have been programmed to think about the future instead of living in the moment. Kind of weird when you think about it isn’t it...

*Yes I am aware that I pretty much contradicted what I suggested in #3 but what I mean by making a 10 year plan is not for you to completely plan out your life but for you to think about what to enjoy and apply that to what you may want to be doing in the future.

5. Write out your favourite quote

I have gotten very into hand lettering (and I'm actually pretty darn good at it) so I love to write out an inspiring quote and place it somewhere that I would see it frequently throughout my day. Here are some of my favourites:

6. YOGA

I live and breath all things yoga and I am a total hard core yogi (is that even a thing...?). But seriously yoga is an amazing way to clear your head and get your creative juices flowing again. I usually come up with my best ideas while I’m on the mat.

7. Reconnect with someone who you miss

Fire off that email to the friend from summer camp that you haven’t spoken to in ages. Just do it. Trust me, it will make you feel a lot better.

8. Get pinning

Yes my Pinterest obsession is still going strong. I think I actually have over 200 inspirational quotes pinned....

9. Make a wanderlust list

While writing this post I came up with this idea, a WANDERLUST LIST! So the idea is pretty much the same as a travel bucket list but this is a way cooler name for it. I recommend putting this list in a place that you will not loose. Think about how cool it will be when your older to look at all the crazy cool places you wanted visit!

10. Tackle a few small projects

Instead of spending 3 hours on one big project, try to accomplish the small things first. Not only does this allow you to get more things done but it also lets you receive that awesome feeling accomplishing something!

Weekly Review

Weekly Review #2

This week has gone by at lightning speeds. I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S MARCH AND SPRING BREAK IS IN 7 DAYS LIFE IS GOOD. This was one of my most favorite weeks ever. I felt like I was on a ‘happiness high’ the whole week. I could not stop smiling.

First off, last weekend there was a dance competition in my town which made me immensely happy. I quit competitive dance this year so this was a chance to see some girls that I haven’t seen in ages. I also LOVE to watch dancing. I practically spent the whole weekend there just sitting and watching. It was amazing.

Then, BOOM it was March. OMG WHERE HAS FEBRUARY GONE!! I feel like I blinked and it was over! But I am completely okay with this because March is going to be epic. Spring break AND Easter, what more could you want!

At the moment I’m very busy planning semi-formal which is at the end of the month. The theme this year is red carpet which I’m quite excited for. I’m not actually going to semi-formal but I'm helping to decorate for it. At my school it’s kind of a unspoken rule that grade 9’s can’t go to semi which makes me very angry but there is really nothing I can do to change it. You have to pick your battles and this is not going to be one of mine.

Also this week was my high school’s ‘Grade 8 Open House Day’ , so around 200 grade 8’s spent the day at my school playing games and all that fun stuff. Unfortunately it seemed that I was more excited to play the games then the grade 8’s..... Oops but come on who doesn’t love games like Duck Duck Goose! Then in the evening was the open house for the parents. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I was asked to be a student ambassador so I had to give a speech, which I have to say was pretty good ;) A bunch of my friends came too and we all had a grand time showing our school spirit!

I am really sad because I’m on the last season of Grey’s Anatomy. I know, I know it’s totally weird to be upset about finishing a t.v show but it has been a big part of my life since Christmas! It has also inspired me to go into medicine when I’m older which is a pretty big deal.

I usually try to tie some sort of life lesson/inspiration into these posts so here it is. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams- Eleanor Roosevelt. This is what I’ve meditating on this week. I visualize my biggest and craziest dreams. In ten years where will I be? What will I be doing? Who will I be with? In ten years I will be 24. I hope to be in Med School preferably at Oxford or Cambridge. I can see myself happily married or in a serious relationship. I will be living in an apartment in London. I will still be best friends with my current best friend. My mom will be in England too, probably in the countryside, always looking out for me.
