In August I’m going on a 7-night alaskan cruise with my mom. Yes, I’m incredibly excited but I’m also very scared. I have never been on a cruise ship before, nor have I ever been to Alaska. I have no doubt that this is going to be an amazing trip, but it is still kind of terrifying. We have signed up to go zip-lining, kayaking in the ARCTIC OCEAN (i have only ever kayaked in a small lake before) and whale watching (ok I guess the last one isn’t too scary, it’s not like we are swimming with them!).
I’m one of those people who act really fearless on the outside, but inside I’m really panicking. I’m always trying to calm everyone down back stage at dance competitions and I’m always talking my friends into doing crazy things. I find that calming others down makes me calmer. There is only a few people who know this about me, my mom, my best friend and a few girls that I dance with. I remember that at one competition this year before we went on stage I had this mini panic attack. I was shaking and I was so scared to go on stage. The girls in my dance group were all confused because I was the one who was suppose to be calming them down! In the end, we realized that it was better for me to be left alone instead of surrounded by people. Anyways, back to Alaska, I don’t want to freak out on the trip like I did backstage.
But what I think I’m going to do is A: take A LOT of deep breaths before I start panicking. B: remember that trying new things is really epic. One of my role models, Zoe Sugg, once said “Just Say Yes!” and I love this phrase. Whenever I’m unsure about doing something I always think about it. You can’t let your mind (or people for that matter) tell you that you can’t do things, because you can. Everybody can do almost everything if they set there minds to it. So, my challenge for you is to go out and do something that scares you. Whether that is riding a horse or standing on a tall building, go face your fears. You will realize that you weren’t really scared of them, it was just your mind telling you that you are afraid and that you can’t conquer them. YOU CAN and I plan on conquering fears in Alaska.

Tumblr. A website designed for people to blog about their lives. But is that what most users use it for? I have this feeling that the true reason that Tumblr exists is so that people have something to strive for. Think about it. How happy were you when you took that perfect picture out of the airplane window, and the first thing you thought was ‘Wow that’s so Tumblr!’ (but to be honest, I do the same thing.) This whole thing has become something more though. Girls at school now complement each other by calling them ‘Tumblr’, that to me is just weird. Why do girls strive to be Tumblr, and how can you possibly ‘be’ a website? This whole concept boggles my mind. But the sad thing about this, is that I’m exactly the same way. I take Tumblr pictures, dress like girls on Tumblr, do thing that people on Tumblr would do, etc. Anyways what I’m trying to say here is that you shouldn’t let social media (or people for that matter) define how you act, dress, do, etc. Be your own person and remember, surround yourself with people who like you for who you are.

I live in a pretty small town and literally all the ‘cool’ girls wear a Pink sweater and black leggings EVERY DAY to school. This isn’t necessarily a issue because those clothes are incredibly comfortable, but what bugs me is that when someone else puts together a super cute outfit, everyone stares and whispers about them. Trust me, I have been in this situation before. So I think that it’s time for a change. Girls (and boys) should wear whatever they think, without having to worry about what others may think. So below is some inspiration of some cute and trendy back-to-schools outfits for many different girls.
*note, please do not feel in any way that this is how you should dress, that is not what I’m trying to say. Wear whatever makes you happy and hold your head high.
**second note, most of these outfits pretty much represent the different personalities of the girls form PLL (oops)

The Laid Back, Casual Girl (who wants to wear sweatpants every day)

Recently I went camping for the first time. This might seem like a perfectly normal thing for some people, but for me this is the same thing as a pig jumping over the moon (ok so not literally, but you get the idea). But it actually turned out to be a great experience. I most likely will never go camping again because of my love of wifi and curling irons but it was still pretty awesome (my hair was a different story though). It really opened my eyes to A: how it is totally possible to take those super epic tumblr pics if you actually go outside and B: the joy of indoor plumbing.
On one of the days, we hiked almost 10km to this tumblr worthy sand beach. A huge waterfall would have been a little more impressive (or cell service), but it was still a nice surprise after a very, very log hike. We also went kayaking and watched the sunset. A sunset is truly something that goes very unnoticed in the city.
Even after all of the bug bites, camping was a pretty darn amazing adventure. Remember, even if you haven’t gone somewhere before, always embrace the new adventure. Below are some of the ‘super-tumblry’ pictures I took, Enjoy!

Ok, so a few days ago I finished the book; All The Bright Places by Jennifer Nivan. Out of all the books I have ever read (and i’ve read A LOT of books) this is the only book that I legitimately have thought about for a good solid week. I can’t decide whether or not I like the book. It’s just that the ending really takes you by surprise and gets you thinking about the seriousness of mental illness (it also makes you think about the power of true love).
The first thing I learned from this novel is that love can truly take you by surprise and it is wonderful. You always hear about those perfect, fairy-tale like couples but I think that the best kind of love is unexpected. You know, the popular, gorgeous girl who just happens to bump in to the geeky boy at school and they instantly fall in love. Yes I love that and this book is the definition of unexpected love.
The second thing I learned is that mental illnesses really suck. Like you just grass stained your brand new $90 Topshop jeans sucky. But the worst part is that you can’t just give people some magic pills and it will go away. Mental illnesses do not go away. They stay with you for a long time and no matter how hard people try to pretend there non existent, there still there. The only real way to treat them is to talk to people who actually know what there talking about. These people can help treat them. Ok so now your probably thinking everything thing’s ok, but it still isn’t. Many people with mental illnesses do not want to seek help because they do not want to be labeled as having an illness. This is where the real problem occurs. This book focuses on many outcomes of not treating mental illnesses, which really touched my heart.
Overall, what I’m trying to say here is that A: You should read this book because after really thinking about this book for 1 week of my life (that I will never back) I have come to the conclusion that this book is amazing. B: Some things come into your life really fast, even if you are not ready for them to happen, but you must still embrace them. Whether or not this may be unexpected love or maybe even a mental illness, do what you can to make the most of it (even if it sucks like grass stains).

Em
